Our background
State of the art indoor climbing in South London and Surrey
The White Spider idea grew from some local climbers who were passionate about climbing and frustrated they had to travel so far because South West London lacked an indoor facility that would cater for their needs.
After another moaning session we decided to do something about the gap in the market and set out scouring across South West London to find the right premises.
It took a bit longer to find the right place – with the height and the access.
Then we set out to find the right wall builder – someone with the same passion and creativity
Then we had to find some money…
And sort out planning permission…..
And build it… and paint it ….. and route set it…..
and …….a few grey hairs later…. here it is…
We are passionate about climbing and passionate about our climbers. That means we aim to give you inspiring climbing, aided by friendly, knowledgeable staff in a great atmosphere and with some good coffee.
Come and see what you think.
Thank You
There are some very talented people who have made this wall happen and we'd like to say a huge Thank You to them.
Living Stone Climbing Walls
To Crispin Waddy owner and creator of Living Stone Climbing Walls who took the kernel of an idea and via much modelling clay and many, many drawings designed the White Spider Wall. This man can do things with plywood that have to be seen to be believed (though Crispin we think that mending your shorts with ply is possibly a step too far). White Spider has unique features – because they are hand sculpted by Crispin and his team- curves, grooves, overhangs to tempt any climber.
To the Build team who built it with hard work and heart, real craftsmanship, a huge amount of sweat, some blood, possibly a few tears and definitely a few evening beers. Thanks guys!
To Rob Lisney who designed and delivered the graphics on the main climbing walls using subtle, minimalist, clean lines that play with the shape and features of the wall and in doing so tease the eye.
To Rowan Pickles who created and painted the graphics on the Waddy wall and the Spider's Castle reflecting both the shape and spirit of Living Stone’s design.
Architects Fletcher Crane who designed the cafe and changing rooms.
