What’s a Spider Climbing Party like?
Every Spider Climbing Party experiences an hour or an hour and a half of climbing fun, enjoying a mixture of top roping and bouldering. (Check out our Climbing Glossary for help with climbing jargon..)
Each party starts with a short briefing and kitting up, and it’s important the kids understand that they need to do what their instructors tell them. Then they’ll head onto our big walls to top rope and finish up with some bouldering!
Top roping involves climbing our 10m high walls while tied into a harness. While one child is climbing, the others will help the instructor take in the rope as they climb! This means that the majority of the kids will be actively engaged throughout the session.
Bouldering is a little different, with no ropes or harnesses required as the kids will climb at low level over a matted area. This is a fun way to finish up the party with lots of fun and games!
How much does it cost?
We have a maximum ratio of 1 instructor to 6 kids to ensure the group is appropriately supervised. All our instructors are specially trained and will provide excellent coaching and careful supervision as the kids literally climb the walls.
The prices are therefore calculated accordingly:
5-6 year olds: duration 1 hour with a 1:4 instructor ratio
7 – 17 year olds: duration 1.5 hours with a 1:6 instructor ratio

If you are unsure about how many children will attend, we’d advise booking for a larger group – it’s much easier for us to decrease a party size than increase! We are also happy to give you a refund for the difference in price if you give at least 48 hours notice.

What’s your availability like?
On Saturdays and Sundays parties can be booked for 11.30am – 1.00pm, 1.30pm – 3.00pm and 3.00pm – 4.30pm. For weekday parties call us to arrange a time to suit.
Parties have become very popular at White Spider – we suggest booking as far in advance as possible.
Please note: To book, we require payment in full to reserve your party. This can be done in person or over the phone by credit or debit card. All card details are entered directly into a card terminal and we will not save any of this information.
Does White Spider do catering?
No, we do not offer catering services. We do have a great party room for hire if you want to bring in some food yourselves, or just have somewhere to light the candles! We cannot reserve space for you in the cafe area, as this is disruptive to our other customers.
Our Party Room is a large private room with windows overlooking the main walls. This can easily cater for larger groups and costs £30 for the hour.
Should you wish to book the room, they’ll be available to you 15 minutes before the end of the climbing session (e.g. The party finishes at 13.30, so you’d have the function room from 13.15 – 14.15). Please note, this hour includes set up and clean up time.
- EVERYONE climbing here at White Spider needs to fill out a form – adults and kids! No child is allowed to climb without a signed Novice Registration Form !
- We require payment in full to reserve your party, and cannot take provisional bookings.
- If for any reason you need to cancel your party, we are happy to give you a full refund as long as we receive 1 weeks notice. We are also happy to move or rearrange parties free of charge, again provided we receive 1 weeks notice.

The check in process is considerably easier if the check in sheet is completed, so we strongly advise you read through this document soon after booking.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Is there a minimum age for climbing parties?
The minimum age for all our instructed sessions is 5 years old.
Having said this, our climbing parties are aimed at those aged 7+, as kids younger than this don’t always have the attention span for 90 minutes of climbing. Children aged between 5 and 8 have an hours worth of climbing and not an hour and a half, we find that our younger climbers benefit from a shorter session.
If the party is for 5 – 6 year olds then it’s worth remembering that the quality of the session will not be the same as for older children. This is due to differences in physical and mental development.
We’d also suggest that a suitable number of parents remain on hand during the party to look after the younger children, in case they get distressed/upset/etc to enable the instructor to remain supervising the group.
What do the kids need to wear?
Any sports or loose fitting clothes work well for climbing and bouldering.
We’d strongly advise against:
– skirts and dresses
– short or cropped shorts
– open toed shoes such as sandals and crocs!
Please bear in mind that the kids will be wearing harnesses and exposed legs can chafe against the harness fabric.
How long will the party last for?
The instructed session lasts for 1.5 hours.
If required, our private rooms are available for hire for 45 minutes after the session (with 15 minutes set up time before this). The kids are also more than welcome to play in the castle before the party.
Please note that due to a new policy, children attending Birthday Parties are no longer allowed access to the Castle Play Area after the party/use of mezzanine or function room.
What if we’re a bit scared of heights?
For those with a fear of heights, we’ve had a kids come for taster sessions to get used to the idea before the big day.
No one is ever forced to climb any higher than they want to!
